UCEA presented with the Canon Chancellor’s Award by Chester Cathedral - 12/03/2018

The Canon Chancellor’s Award is earned for displaying innovation in Christian teaching and offers primary, secondary and special needs schools from across the UK an opportunity to demonstrate their expertise in the teaching of Christianity through art, drama and music.

Being a Church of England school, UCEA were invited by Chester Cathedral to take part in the Canon Chancellor Award ceremony. The aim was to encourage students to explore the concept of the ‘Fall and Salvation’ by creating a 3D model.  The Academy were able to submit three entries and one of the entries, produced by Emily McIilhorne, was awarded first prize in the Key Stage 3 category.

We were also delighted to share our success with Christ Church Primary, who won at both the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 categories.

Mr Anderson, Chaplain at University Church of England Academy, said: “It was a memorable occasion and it is an honour for our school to receive the Canon Chancellor’s Award for 2018. The entries reflected distinctive Christian thinking on the themes of the Fall and Salvation.”

Emily McIlhone, a Year 7 student at UCEA, said: “It was a really exciting and enjoyable experience because we were able to receive our awards and also take part in a falconry tour.”

Jerry Cieminski, a Year 7 student at UCEA, added: “It was incredible to win and a joy to take part in. All the effort put in has been worthwhile.”
