Welcome to University Church of England Academy

Our Faith

At UCEA our values of Believe Belong Become are surrounded and supported by our Christian atmospheres of Hope Trust Peace, these underpin our Christian Ethos as a Church of England school. We seek to encourage and enable our students to grow and develop, supporting each other to become the best versions of themselves spiritually, morally and emotionally as well as academically.

Our Chapel is a dedicated space for quiet reflection and prayer within the school; a place for staff and students looking for a place to give thanks or facing a difficulty are able to sit and be. It’s also used for group prayer times for both staff and students.

Christian Value representatives are selected from each form group who work to inform and develop our Collective Worship.  They also develop how we can demonstrate Christianity through our actions, such as collecting food for the foodbank at Harvest and Christmas as well as coats and socks for the homeless during Advent and Lent. These are things we have done

Collective worship at University Church of England Academy takes place each day either during Academic review within form groups or in the theatre in pupil’s assemblies. Collective Worship is partly based on the Church Liturgical Calendar, but also based on a theme for the week. This is then explored further and linked to a Bible verse, media clip, questions and reflection and daily prayer. It takes place in all Year groups (including 6th form provision). Through Collective Worship we aim to reflect our values of Believe, Belong, and Become as well as our three distinctive Christian atmospheres of Hope, Peace and Trust.

We demonstrate these through our care for ourselves, those in our School family, the community we live in and the global community. This enables both staff and students to gain an understanding of Christian worship as well as to partake in it whether they have faith or not.

Special Events

As an Academy we are also building and strengthening links with the local faith community of Ellesmere Port, celebrating key Christian festivals such as Christmas and Easter with whole school services in St Thomas’ Church as well as celebrating Harvest within the Academy building.

Right for withdrawal

However, parents/guardians have a legal right to withdraw their child from daily acts of worship, where a parent/guardian exercises this right alternative activities will be provided in consultation with the school and the child’s parents/guardians. This does not mean that the student will be by any means exempt from the Christian ethos and values of UCEA which inform and underpin school life and all that we do at the Academy.

Academy Prayer

Dear Lord,

I ask you to help me to Believe in myself and those around me.

I ask that as a community we can find a place to Belong by supporting one another.

I ask that with your help I will aspire to Become the very best I can be.

AMEN
